Fringe (S01E02)

This post is filled with spoilers!

A new episode. Not sure what I should expect from the series. For being all about science, they sure go out of their ways to make it pseudo as fuck.

The series begins with some nutcase accidentally impregnating a whore, who’s then growing a baby in record time in her guts, which handily explode by the way, then the resulting baby evolving into a full fledged grand pa and dieing within minutes.

The cast is then asked to investigate this event and what could cause this. Naturally, everything points to research done by the nutty professor in the past, leading to an ex-colleague, who by chance turned rogue as is revealed during the episode. Apparently this was a research program related to growing super soldiers (how original). Said old colleague created an Espresso child in the past and tries to keep his fast growth in check by having him run around enacting some serial killing and cutting the pituitary glands out of his victims brains.

They track down the child, which dies by going grand-pa after a fuck up, and the ex-colleague gets away. There’s also some wishy-washy conspiracy back story being shown at the beginning.

The editing and pacing was still strange in this episode. I hope they improve on that.

Fucking “reviews”!

What’s this trend lately of various sites claiming to have done “reviews”, that are essentially just parrotting the related press release with some slightly different words?

For days now I’m trying to find actual real world pictures of the upcoming Logitech Illuminated Keyboard, yet whatever exclusion search I try, I keep running into these silly “reviews”, saying the same thing everywhere and just offering the press release images. Why are these faggots even calling it a review if they didn’t even touch the actual hardware (that’ll hit market next month only)?

Seriously, fuck you guys for polluting Google and co even more.

Fringe (S01E01)

Saw the season premiere of J.J. Abrams’ (Alias, Lost, Mission Impossible 3) new series called Fringe.

This post is filled with spoilers!

This series basically is X-Files, just more straight to the point and open about it. Means the difference is that they’re actually seeking out cases of so called “para/fringe science” and are not waiting to be called out to the scene to then solve a mystery Scooby Do style like X-Files does.

The premiere deals with a supervirus that turns people into liquid goo, or glass figurines if the patients are cooled down (yeah, like Hollow Man but only half-way). Just like “Alias”, the partner/boyfriend of the lead is also being affected by the topic at hand, i.e. the virus, shortly after introduction and on-foot chase scene. The means of solving the case uses a mix of pretend real science and the aforementioned fringe science. For instance is the lead being drugged up on LSD and other assorted heavy drugs, then being connected with sort of a power cable up her neck to her comatose partner to create a shared dream state. While it reads totally cheesy, the execution of it is halfway decent. You can expect more of that stuff in upcoming episodes.

The episode also hinted at a larger framework, called “The Pattern”, in which all incidents and cases in the upcoming episodes can be placed. It’s still a mystery what it is, whether it’s just Lost style bullshitting, some Rambaldi style thing or something completely new (which I doubt, since Abrams keeps reusing his story tools). There’s also a clicheed conspirative megacorp in the series world, whose chief secretary has cyborg arms. We’ll see how that’ll play out.

The main cast is introduced and assembled during the course of the episode. There’s the usual female lead, some nutty professor and his son (one of those Dawson Creek dudes), and some other guys no one cares about. The chemistry between them seems to be generally good, though the female lead kind of stands out. Negatively, in my opinion.

The first episode was decent to watch, even though the editing was a little strange and off. Can’t await to see how it continues to develop and whether it devolves in a Lostesque mystery crap fest or not.

New, new, new, yet the same old shit!

Figured I finally move everything over to a cooler domain and as well a dotcom one. I considered moving over to “Combat Pretzel” as new nickname, but nostalgy keeps me from doing it (as usual). But I took this as opportunity to leave the old crap where it is right now and start over. Easier to sort out this category vs. tagging mess.

Also, enjoy this WEB 2.0 HUGE FONTS GRADIENTS XXXTREME theme.
